Even importers who faced tariff pressure mitigated the issue by planning and focusing on the premium segment. “Last year was amazing and we have surpassed last year,” said Blake Dennard, senior vice president of Kaleen. Even with tariffs, “at our end of the business, it’s not going to stop [the customer], so the downturn doesn’t affect us as much.” He added that the company is up double digits and is going with the momentum, adding 23 collections and 100 styles.

From Kaleen’s perspective, the lift in wool and wool-blend demand is absolutely a mix of style and sustainability, according to Monty Rathi, owner and COO of Kaleen. “Wool has always been a core part of our story because it delivers the rich texture, color clarity and dimensional pattern that consumers and designers want. In the last few years, more of our partners are specifically asking for natural fibers and better-performing, longer-lasting floor coverings, and wool sits right at that intersection,” Rathi explained.

Ten years ago, Kaleen exhibited in a 10 x 15-foot space and showed nine products. This year, it showcased 23 new styles in a 40 x 60 booth. “Surfaces has turned out better results for us each year, and we’re not taking a step back,” said Blake Dennard, senior vice president of sales. “It would take us nine months in the field to accomplish what we accomplish here in three days.” At Surfaces, Kaleen held nearly 300 meetings, during which it showcased products from its four divisions. “Our customers were calling us and saying, ‘We need new products,’” said Monty Rathi, co-owner/COO.
